The Cen-Tex Sustainable Communities Partnership in collaboration with Fort Hood Recycle and Child & Youth Services (CYS) School Liaison Office Adopt-A-School Program in partnership with the Youth Environmental Ambassadors! (YEA!) program empowers youth to make a meaningful difference within their school’s footprint and community and lead in sustainability efforts in the Central Texas region. Schools are challenged to participate in one or more of the initiatives.
Established to improve the quality of life and economic vitality of the area, the partnership focuses on promoting environmentally sound practices and sustainability initiatives. The partnership recognizes individuals, schools, and organizations for their contributions to sustainability. Awards are given for achievements in recycling, environmental education, and community service, highlighting the positive impact of local efforts.
The Crossroads High School- Youth Environmental Ambassadors encourage engagement in sustainability efforts, promoting activities such as litter prevention, conservation, and recycling, fostering a sense of environmental stewardship among students.
The ambassadors received several awards this year. Throughout the year, the Ambassadors participated in a variety of school and community service activities, including:
· Lights Out Lunch initiative
· School beautification projects
· Collecting aluminum tabs, paper, and cardboard for recycling
· Participating in the district anti‑bullying competition
· Environmental fashion show through KCCB
· Trash cleanup at H‑E‑B in partnership with KCCB
· Packaging bags for individuals experiencing homelessness with Fresh Fire LLC
· Volunteering with the citywide food drive organized by Dana Walls, including assembling food boxes for community members
· Competing in the environmental art contest and creating environmental awareness posters.
· Creating encouraging cards for women in the local shelter
Crossroads HS Environmental Ambassadors were awarded top ambassadors from the city of Copperas Cove
