COPPERAS COVE – Five campuses in Copperas Cove have been named to the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Elementary School rankings for 2025.

 

House Creek Elementary tops the list, for schools in Copperas Cove, coming in at 367th out of more than 6,000 elementary schools in Texas. House Creek, Cove’s first National Blue Ribbon School, saw 68% of its students at or above proficient levels in both math and reading.

 

Martin Walker Elementary checked in at 898th in Texas, with 52% of students at or above proficient levels in math and 64% at or above proficient levels in reading.

 

Fairview/Miss Jewell Elementary checked in at 1,124th in the state with 47% of students at or above proficient level in math and 57% in reading.

 

Hettie Halstead Elementary School was 1,673rd in the state with 47% of students proficient or better in math and 52% in reading

 

Finally, Clements/Parsons Elementary came in at 1,716th with 50% of students proficient or better in math and 52% in reading.

Each of these five campuses earned a spot on the list in 2024, as well.

 

“The continued excellence taking place on each of these campuses in Copperas Cove is incredible and this award is not only a testament to the work put in by every single teacher and administrator on those campuses, but the students, as well,” said Dr. Brent Hawkins, Superintendent of Schools. “Each of these schools embodies a student-first approach to learning and shows that there truly are a million miracles a day taking place inside public schools across Cove and the state of Texas.”

 

The U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Of” lists rank schools on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for high school. In state-required tests, the organization specifically looks at proficiency and performance in reading and math.
